Art on Tour @St. Croix Falls Public Library

For one week at each location, this touring exhibition will highlight the work of Minnesota Poet Laureate and quilt artist, Gwen Westerman. To contextualize her 2021 exhibition at Gustavus Adolphus College’s Hillstrom Museum of Art, Westerman explained. “The addition of my poetry alongside my quilts brings together both forms of my piecing and layering processes in words and fabric… Both involve focus on small pieces and finding a rhythm as they are put together to create something larger.”

Dr. Gwen Westerman was named Minnesota’s Poet Laureate in September 2021. Dr. Westerman teaches American and Native Nations literatures, Technical Communication, and Humanities at Minnesota State University, Mankato. She’s received awards for her work on Dakota history and language, and recognition for her work as a scholar, poet, and artist.
