In a rare appearance, local poet Lee Kisling will be reading from his work in the River Room at The Phipps Center for the Arts on October 6. He will be joined at the podium by Jeanne Lutz and John Graber — admired regional poets from Minneapolis and Stockholm, Wi. Lee has two published books of poetry The Lemon Bars of Parnassus and Add to Cart, and his poetry has appeared in many journals and magazines. His work is accessible and often comic. John Graber grew up in Western Kansas. He received degrees from St. Olaf College in 1968 and the University of Iowa Writers Workshop in 1972. He taught high school English for many years in Wisconsin and has led many writing workshops in and around Stockholm, WI. John has published over 50 poems in national magazines, several chapbooks, and in 2008 published an astonishing and widely praised book of poems called Thanksgiving Dawn.
Jeanne Lutz grew up on a small dairy farm in southern Minnesota, attended the National University of Ireland Galway, and spent two years in Japan. She is a Pushcart Prize nominee, and winner of the Loft Mentor Series for poetry. She divides her time between the family farm and giving tours at the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
