Art Appreciation for Teens: Gustav Klimt and the Art Nouveau Movement

Art Appreciation for Teens: Gustav Klimt and the Art Nouveau Movement

Presented by Stillwater Public Library at Stillwater Public Library

Join us for a virtual class that will be taught live on Zoom by Artistry. Art Nouveau is characterized by its use of natural themes, wild ‘whiplash’ curves, and dreamy ornate decorations. It took art and craft and blended the two together, creating all manner of beautiful objects ranging from doorknobs to textiles to paintings. Gustav Klimt was a painter, muralist, and sketch artist who broke with the subdued conventions of his time and created decadent paintings full of complex patterns and color and gold leaf. Our artist instructor will demonstrate some of the stylized techniques used by Klimt, Mucha, Gaudi, and Mackintosh-Macdonald among others to create the lush organic designs of the Art Nouveau Movement.

This virtual class is for ages 12-18. Registration is required. You will receive information about attending the online program via email.

This program is funded with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund (Legacy).
