A traveling folk opera based on Dante’s Purgatorio.
Children of the Wild, a theatre and film ensemble in residence at Philadelphia Community Farm, is holding a free performance in Osceola, WI of an original folk opera entitled The Wastelands, Friday Sept. 29th through Sunday October 1st.
The Wastelands is a reimagining of Dante Alighieri’s epic poem Purgatorio, taking audiences on a visceral outdoor journey through the seven stages of grief by weaving music, movement, imagery, and local testimony in connection with local struggles to protect our communities from forces of oppression.
This performance marks the return of The Wastelands to the Minnesota Metro area where it first debuted in October, 2016. Following the premiere of The Wastelands in Buffalo, NY in June of last year, Children of the Wild traveled from June-October, 2016 across the Great Lakes basin from Buffalo, NY to Minneapolis, MN performing in post-industrial sites and sacrifice zones. They are thrilled to bring this performance full circle by returning to the Minnesota Metro Area this year.
The performance runs 75 minutes with a reception and dialogue to follow.
Free Admission.
A hat will be passed for donations after the show during the reception. The performance is outdoors, involves traveling less than .2 miles, and proceeds rain or shine; please bring good walking shoes, a chair you can carry if you desire, and an umbrella if it looks like rain.
