Introduction to Morels and Spring Mushrooms

Presented by Great River Road Visitor & Learning Center at Freedom Park at Great River Road Visitor & Learning Center at Freedom Park

Spring means mushrooms! Do you want to learn how to successfully find and safely identify wild mushrooms including the famously elusive morel mushroom? Join Tim Clemens of Ironwood Foraging Co. on a guided outdoor mushroom walk for beginning and experienced mushroom hunters. Dress for spring weather. We will have an indoor presentation on spring mushrooms and mushroom hunting tips in case of severe weather.

Ironwood Foraging Co. was founded by Tim Clemens in 2017. Born and raised in Minneapolis, Tim grew up amid the abundant natural places and wildlife of Minneapolis. While attending the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities, he discovered foraging and ethnobotany which transformed the green spaces he loved into dynamic areas full of new fruits and vegetables, mushrooms, tastes, smells, and experiences. After reading books, going on plant and mushroom walks, attending classes, and participating in sugarbush, more self-sufficiency skills followed, such as tapping trees for syrup, soapmaking, and mushroom hunting. Within this return to nature the seed of what would be Ironwood Foraging Co. was planted.

Tim holds a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities. He is a Minnesota Master Naturalist, member of the Minnesota Mycological Society, and a Certified Wild Mushroom Expert.
