Volunteer for William O’Brien State Park! Help bluebirds raise their young. Share the excitement with visitors. No experience necessary.
William O’Brien State Park has over 160 bluebird houses that have raised bluebirds, tree swallows, house wrens, and other species for decades. Bluebird Nest Monitors open the nesting boxes and record data on nests, eggs, and chicks. Bluebird Station Volunteers connect park visitors with birds at the Bluebird Observation Station. Your commitment for 2019 can vary from just 5 volunteer hours to weekly monitoring between April and August.
All volunteers must attend the Bluebird Program Volunteer Orientation on Saturday, March 30. Bluebird Nest Monitors will meet from 10 a.m. – noon. Bluebird Station Volunteers will meet from 12:45-1:45 p.m. Please attend both if you decide to volunteer with both aspects of the program.
RSVP for the Volunteer Orientation by emailing Sean.Hoppes@state.mn.us or by calling Sean at 651-433-0500 x227. Meet at the Visitor Center.
All vehicles entering the park must display a $7 daily or $35 annual MN State Parks Permit, available at the entrance station.
