A literary reading at The Zephyr Theatre
Ten selected writers will read their work in poetry, memoir and fiction.
Kate Lynn Hibbard will read from Simples, by Howling Bird Press, the most recent of her three published collections of poetry. Winner of the publisher’s 2018 Poetry Prize, Simples examines the lives of settlers and indigenous women against the backdrop of the Great Plains, with close attention to flora and fauna as well as the goods and materials of daily life.
Laura Scott and Elissa Cottle will both read from the 2019 memoir, The Victory Daughter. Elissa was honored to turn Laura’s story of gratitude and courage into a memoir that begins when she was born so tiny it was unlikely she would live. Laura not only survived but thrived beyond expectations, yet is haunted by the childbirth tragedies of her two siblings before her, and is jolted by subsequent losses.
Also featured are these emerging St. Croix Valley writers: Emmett Carolan, Klay Eckles, Lizzie Harris, Scott Jacobs, Kristin Klemetsrud, Kimberly Schneider and
