Farms, Fish and Forest

Presented by Great River Road Visitor & Learning Center at Freedom Park at Great River Road Visitor & Learning Center at Freedom Park

Mr. Webb: “As director of the Conservation Department for Pierce County I have the privilege of working with many different organizations, agencies and most importantly residents of Pierce County to protect the vast natural resources of the county. Fertile farmland, high quality streams, clean ground water, abundant fish and wildlife species as well as productive forestland are all very important resources that Conservation Department staff strives to protect for current and future generations.

“Unfortunately, water quality issues exist in Pierce County and become much larger when you look at river systems such as the Mississippi and St. Croix. My presentation will highlight how and why the ongoing conservation effort of many people and organizations throughout the county affects more than just our local resources.”

Rod Webb has the good fortune of working with landowners, agribusiness professionals, sportsman’s groups, non-government conservation organizations, along with state and federal agencies all with a common goal of protecting the soil & water resources of Pierce County. As County Conservationist for Pierce County, he is responsible for supervising the implementation of long-range resource management plans that target soil erosion and nutrient runoff issues to prevent the degradation of Pierce County’s high-quality trout streams as well as sediment accumulation in Lake Pepin.

Rod has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Soil Science from University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point. He has spent over 25 years promoting conservation ethics and assisting landowners with conservation practices on lands that have a direct effect on our soil & water resources. Rod also operates a cash grain and livestock farm which allows him to implement conservation techniques prior to recommending them to other landowners.
