All About Monarchs

All About Monarchs

Presented by The Food Group MN at Big River Farms

Learn from the “Butterfly Lady” Janie O’Connor about the life cycle of monarch butterflies and discover the facts about their unique migration story. Search for milkweed plants on the farm and learn to identify monarch eggs.  Janie will also demonstrate how to rear caterpillars in cages in your own home, and how you can be part of reversing the trend of their declining population.

Attendees can purchase their own butterfly cage at registration or buy directly from Janie at the class. All attendees will go home with a milkweed to plant that will provide crucial habitat for these monarchs.

Janie has been raising and teaching about monarch butterflies for 30 years and is currently a vendor at the Scandia Farmers Market. She is passionate about educating people about the life cycle and unique needs of monarch caterpillars in order to reverse their declining populations.
