The paintings of Jan Hopkins Furness and the pottery of Jeff Wilson share an affinity that can be seen in the reflections of water, the shapes of clouds in the sky and the synergy between their displayed art works at the Great River Road Visitor and Learning Center at Freedom Park.
Please join us for the free opening celebration of this exhibition on Friday, August 4 from 5-7 pm. Light refreshments will be served. The exhibition will be available for viewing Mondays through Saturdays from 9 AM to 5 PM and Sundays from 12 PM to 5 PM through August 27. Free admission and parking.
Jan Hopkins Furness:
Water, Clouds and Reflections
Growing up in rural southern Wisconsin, living on a mountainside in upstate New York, having a home overlooking the Mississippi River south of Prescott and appreciating photographic images taken by my husband, I have been inspired to paint water, clouds and reflections.
Having no formal art education I appreciate the support and kind critiques of the artists of The Little Colony Art Group of Prescott with whom I have painted for the last year and a half. After retiring from a professional career I am following my passion.
Jeff Wilson:
I like to create functional stoneware with the occasional dabble into Raku. However there are still the moments where caution goes to the wind and something strange is created. Cone 6 stoneware with electric firing is mostly how things happen in my studio. I create my own glazes for the most part as well (which can lead to some interesting results). Unless otherwise marked, all my glazes are food/microwave/dishwasher safe.
